Flat Cat evolved out
of informal acoustic jams on a farm in West Bertram, Iowa back in
1994. Sessions around a campfire eventually moved inside the shed
when the weather cooled and moved into the electric age. It started
with Mark Anderson, Zeke Schuller and Dave Bader. Butch O'Connell
came out and started playing drums and then Jeff Reeder joined in on
guitar.
Flat Cat eventually
starting playing live gigs and over the years the personell changed
a little. Tom Dowd joined in on vocals, Tom T-Bone Giblin joined on
keyboards and eventually Craig Erickson replaced Jeff Reeder (who
moved on to Kansas City) on guitars.
We've played in front
of as few as 5 people and as many as 10,000 over the years but have
stayed true to the experimental ways of the shed - always trying
something new and playing the songs a little different. We have well
over 100 songs on our list that run between originals and soulful
covers - from New Orleans backbeat to Chicago blues, Memphis soul,
San Francisco jam rock and a little Iowa country thrown
in.
Over ten years later
we are still out playing the clubs and having fun. We all have other
projects to work on, but keep coming back for more Flat Cat - hope
things are well with you.
